What does a Mercedes-Benz VIN tell you — and what doesn't it?
A 17-character Mercedes-Benz VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) links to the manufacturer's factory build data. It lists every factory-installed Sonderausstattung (SA) option code, including paint and upholstery codes, plus the model, model year, engine/fuel type and body. However, factory data establishes how the vehicle left the factory — it does not replace a physical inspection for current condition or a vehicle history check for post-delivery accidents.
